Lake County Fairgrounds opened in 1897 as a one-purpose fairground. During the Great Depression, the fairgrounds were converted to a stockyard and meat processing plant to help provide food and jobs. After World War II, the fairgrounds again changed purposes in 1958 when the Lake County Fair Association was formed to preserve the fairgrounds as a community facility open to the public. The Lake County Fair has been held at the Lake County Fairgrounds since 1959. The fairgrounds were expanded in the early 1960s and again in the late 1980s.
