Landheim specializes in training your dog. Classes are offered on a regular schedule, as well as after hours by appointment in a variety of formats. Puppy Kindergarten can start as soon as 8 weeks old to help train your new addition on the basics. Obedience classes begin as young as 5 months for dogs and their handlers, and there are a variety of stages your dog can continue as it graduates each class. If you have a more aggressive dog, or less time to devote to training they offer private lessons or board-in training via ‘doggy boot camp’. Landheim is also recognized as a top trainer of Police and Service Dogs. K9 training is offered for patrol, narcotics, explosive and arson detection, and they even offer training to police departments to help them establish their own canine training. Browse this site
When it comes to Service Dogs, almost any breed can be trained if they are friendly towards people and animals, respond well to training and do not experience discomfort in public, loud spaces. They also must be appropriately sized to provide the service they are training for. Most service dogs require an intense time commitment, generally around 100 hours over 6 months. Service dogs can be trained to detect medical issues such as seizures, help owners with mobility limitations, as well as provide mental health therapy. Some standard service training provided at Landheim include Guide Dog Training for the blind or visually impaired; Alert Dog Training for physical conditions such as diabetes; and Mobility Dog Training, where the dogs are trained to retrieve items, open doors or drawers, and provide bracing support to their owners.
In addition to training, Landheim offers boarding and has regularly been voted Northwest Indiana’s #1 Dog Kennel. The dog ‘hotel suites’ offered to boarders feature air conditioning in the summer and heated floors for winter. They measure 100 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor space and receive daily housekeeping. Pricing starts at around $36/day with a menu of add-ons that include snuggle time, nature walks and additional playtime. Drop off time is from 9 am to 4:30 pm Monday thru Friday or 9am to 12pm on Saturdays. Pick up time is between 10am-2pm Monday thru Friday or from 10 am to Noon Saturday. Pick up and drop off outside of the standard hours require an additional days charge, and they do not allow either on Sundays or holidays. Be advised that your dog will also require proof of vaccination to be a boarder.
As if that is not enough services to fully care for your best friend, they also offer top-notch grooming services starting at $50, with an A-La-Bark Menu of add-ons such as trimming, teeth brushing, de-shedding and even facials.
